Early March is towards the end of the hedge laying season, and I was laying a new hedge Harbertonford and looked up and this amazing Tawny has been keeping an eye on my work !!

I’m sure it’s a male and have called it Toby its been on site from day one.

The hedge is a 27-metre hedge and it was completed in around two days, on day three of this bit work was a smaller 14-metre hedge.

It was also pleasing to get a nice testimonial for this work, which can be found below, as Margaret says, getting a hedge laid properly is so much better than just cutting the top off each year, many reasons perhaps if only keeping this craft and the older look and feel of Devon countryside alive in the 21st century.  This type of hedge also supports a wide variety of smaller wildlife, insects that are complementary to our nowadays gardens and lawns.  They are also a treat in spring and summer as come to life, and again in the autumn when they change colour as part of that season.

To note: hedge paying in the Devon style is conducted over the winter months
